Malvern Quilters are currently exhibiting photographs of their stunning quilts on Edith Walk in Great Malvern. The Quilters are the oldest quilting group in the country, at over 40 years old. Starting as a group of hand sewers of hexagons, they now make a wide range of different styles and fabrics, for themselves, and for charities, such as Project Linus, and Quilts for Care Leavers. They make not only large quilts but smaller items, such as mats, bags and other decorative items.
They meet on the first and third Monday of every month and welcome new members of all abilities. The meetings can involve a guest speaker, or demonstration, a make it together session, fabric sales and sessions suggested by members.
In 2020 the group worked on a quilt together. Each participant chose their own fabrics and once a month had pattern and instruction, with demonstration for a new block. Different fabrics made such different effects and a range is on display on Edith Walk.
You will also be able to see these and many other quilts and items made by members at their exhibition in Colwall Village Hall on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April, where they will be raffling the Presidents Quilt, pictured above. The exhibition is open from 10 am – 4pm.
The Presidents quilt is a joint project. The current president chooses the pattern, in this case the pattern is “Best of All” from Beyond the Battlefield by Mary Etherington and Connie Tesene. All members who chose to participate made a block, which were then joined together to finish the quilt.
As well as quilts on display at the exhibition there will be light lunches, and other refreshments, tombola, raffle, sales tables and demonstrations of long arm quilting.
Proceeds from the exhibition will be given to charities, CLAPA Cleft Lip and Palate Association, and Myeloma and Leukemia Research.
