Outdoor Activities

The great outdoors is The Malverns biggest asset. The Natural Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), of the Malvern Hills, is right on your doorstep offering miles of rambling paths, views across the Severn Plain and to the Black Mountains in Wales, and a great spot to watch blazing summer sunsets. You don’t need expensive gear or loads of walking experience to get the most out of The Malverns – although sensible footwear is advised! The highest peak of the hills can be accessed from Great Malvern in under an hour – and rewarding views can be seen just minutes into the climb. And, when you’ve taken your summit selfie, it’s an easy descent back to the warm embrace of the pubs and cafe’s in Great Malvern.

Elsewhere in The Malverns there is no end of outdoor activities to get stuck into. There is mini golf at Café No.8 in Upton and a full sized Florida-style 18-hole golf course at The Bank House Hotel. Meet animals at Top Barn, pick your own summer fruits at Clive’s, walk with alpacas at Alpaca Meadows and bring your climbing gear and scale one of 11 permitted climbing locations across the district.

Events & Live Music

The Malverns is brimming with festivals and events to suit all tastes. We are home to two fantastic venues, Malvern Theatres and art deco theatre The Regal in Tenbury Wells, which host everything from opera broadcast from the Met to French Film Festivals. The Regal is hosting its first Folk Festival this year with performances from fantastic guitarists and folk singers.

Town centre venues like OCC, The Water Cure, Weavers and Malvern Cube have regular live music from singer-songwriters to blues, as do the many pubs that pepper the landscape like The Bluebell, The Drum & Monkey, The Wyche and Pembroke House. Venues in Great Malvern come alive with music during the annual Malvern Rocks Festival which will see local artists play in pubs, venues, in Priory Park and on Belle Vue Island.

As well as local talent, The Malverns welcomes world famous stars to it’s rolling hills every summer presenting large music festivals. This year App Fest hosts The Boomtown Rats, and LakeFest brings you The Libertines and Rudimental. Famous artists & DJ’s from the world of drum & bass will descend on El Dorado Festival hosted at Eastnor Deer Park.

Flawless Food

Leave the weeknight dinners, snatched supermarket sandwiches and soggy cereal breakfasts for foodie bliss in The Malverns. There’s loads of choice if you have a vegan or veggie in your party. With dedicated vegan café Rise in Great Malvern and plenty of restaurants with vegan and veggie options there is no fear of being left with a plate of crudités for dinner. You can even sample delicious vegan and gluten free cakes and bakes at top coffee house Abbey Road.

Tenbury Wells, a town surrounded by orchards, vineyards and hop fields, has lots of foodie shops including artisan fishmongers The Fish Wife and hand made chocolates at Mr Thom’s. In Upton upon Severn sample traditional steamed puddings from Great Taste Awarded The Pudding Shop or head to Clive’s Farm Shop for locally sourced goods, butchery and jugs of their own ‘Wobble Juice’ (cider).

Restaurants such as Madresfield Butchers & Grill, Faun and The Cottage in The Wood pride themselves on using locally sourced produce with a sustainable and anti-waste ethos and you’re never far from good sourdough in The Malverns with The Malvern Bakehouse baking fresh loaves every day.

See the production of wine from its beginnings as a humble grape or sample beer straight from the source by visiting one of our vineyards or tap rooms. Astley Vineyard does tours and tastings throughout the summer and welcome you to get up close to the vines, learn about the onsite wine production and have a taste.  For beer enthusiasts the Hop Shed is located in a converted chicken shed on a beautiful farm where many of the hops they use for brewing are grown. You can visit their onsite taproom to taste their sustainably brewed beers or head to one of their events like pizza Saturdays.
