It’s not just holidaymakers that are attracted to The Malverns; over the past few months lots of new and exciting businesses have been opening their doors across our district. Our towns, Tenbury Wells, Malvern and Upton upon Severn, were already overflowing with independent businesses and fantastic cuisines but now there’s even more to explore with a new health food shop, Japanese menu and bookshop.
The Malverns is positively brimming with new activities, shops and eateries with more exiting plans unfolding over the next few months – see all this, as well as your longstanding favourites, on your next visit.
The Bell at Pensax
This well loved pub has had a stunning renovation and re-opened under new ownership. The Bell has a gorgeous countryside location and a large, sprawling back garden taking in beautiful views. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, a children’s play area as well as a really large selection of ales. There is a woodfired pizza oven as well as a brand new menu, you won’t be disappointed with a visit to this countryside gem.

The Bear and Ragged Staff has been taken over by successful landlord David Willson-Lloyd. There are a few ongoing renovations at the pub causing some disruption to opening hours, but normal service should resume from 7 October. Having had a reputation as one of Worcestershire’s finest pub – restaurants regulars will be pleased to know that the talented Head Chef Josh Harris is staying on. Great Malvern town centre favourite The Red Lion has launched it’s new menu. Located on St Ann’s road the cosy spot is perfect as the start or end of your hills walk. Food is served 12pm – 7:30pm Monday to Saturday and from 12pm – 5pm on Saturday. Night Owl Brewery – Storridge
Malvern Hills newest brewery opened in Storridge on 14 September. Night Owl Brewery crafts its own traditional craft real ales by hand, using traditional ingredients and cutting out the use of harsh chemicals. With an eye on sustainability Night Owl Brewery recycles all spent grain from the brewery process into animal feed. There are three ales currently available: Flight, a pale ale with notes of grapefruit; Storridge Stout, a roasted barley stout with subtle orange and chocolate notes and Forest, a smooth and rich chestnut bitter. There is outdoor and indoor seating available as well as other local snacks and home made venison dishes on Saturdays.

An eclectic art gallery and exhibition space is coming soon to the old Amnesty bookshop on Edith Walk. The studio will showcase the diverse and unique works of local artists as well as offering curatorial services and workshops.

Keep an eye out for the re-opening of this historic pub this October under a slightly different name, The Old Hunting Lodge. The café/ bar will be opening on 12 October 2024 with a free hog roast. The fine dining restaurant and hotel will be opening later as it is currently undergoing renovations.
