Event Description

Elgar wrote many songs throughout his career. Many of them are hardly known today, but they are all of great beauty and interest, and we are showcasing some of the finest of them in our concert which will feature soprano Valerie Sherlock and bass/baritone Kieran Sherlock.

Providing a narrative which will once again place each song in the context of Elgar’s life, the talk will demonstrate that the intriguing thing about Elgar’s songs is that in every case he chose the words very carefully to reflect the events of his own life, his relationships and his mood. Therefore they must always be regarded as autobiographical and Richard Westwood-Brookes’s talk will highlight this.

The concert/talk is being staged thanks to the very generous sponsorship of The Elgar Society.

This talk will take place on Sunday 8 December 2024 at 11am and 2pm. With just 60 tickets available per recital, this will not be an event to miss.

This event is free, but normal admission charges apply for the venue. Booking is essential.
