Event Description

A brand-new entertaining and informative comedy from the makers of Three Men in a Boat and Old Herbaceous. Delve deep into the life of English comedian, actor, singer, and writer Benny Hill from the height of his career to his death in 1992. In his latest play, Mark Carey resolves to address the question ‘What’s Wrong with Benny Hill?’ and to demonstrate how funny this unique and deeply private man was.

Considered amongst his peers as the best, an ‘imperial clown’, Benny Hill is widely recognized for the TV show The Benny Hill Show. Full of slapstick humour, burlesque, and double entendre, it ran successfully for two decades before it was cancelled in 1989. Today the show is broadcast regularly in over 100 countries around the world but still, in Britain, Benny Hill has effectively been ‘cancelled’.

Expect laugh-out-loud comedy combined with thought-provoking theatre that tackles current issues and addresses the ‘cancel culture’ attitudes of the modern world. A wonderfully fun, inspiring, and informative occasion to reminisce on a comedy legend that many viewers will remember fondly as an entertaining and witty performer.

This event is suitable for adults only.
